Dial-up: Disconnect

You can disconnect from the Internet and free up your phone line by right-clicking on the small picture of two computers that can be found at the bottom right of your screen (this icon shows that you are currently online).

showing the location of the two computers picture

This will open a pop-up window with a short list of options. Click on Disconnect. In a few moments the two computers will disappear, your modem will disconnect from the internet, and your phone line can now be used.

Windows XP users may not see the connection icon of two computers at the bottom right of the screen. If that is the case follow these instructions:

  • Click Start > Control Panel
  • If you're not in classic view of the Control Panel, click on Switch to Classic View on the left-hand panel
  • Double-click the Network Connections icon
  • Right-click the dialup icon that represents your connection with us - with the word default next to it.
  • From the menu that is displayed click Properties
  • Click on the General tab
  • At the bottom of this screen place a tick in the small white box next to 'Show icon in notification area when connected'. You can do this by placing the cursor on the box and clicking once.
  • Click OK to finish
